PPHS Students Visit CCDB Climate Centre to Witness Real-World Climate Solutions
Hands-on experience with Bangladesh’s premier climate adaptation hub empowers students and opens doors for future research and employment
The Department of Social Relations took part in a transformative field visit to the Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB) Climate Centre in Gazipur on 16th May, 2025, as part of East West University’s commitment to experiential learning and sustainability education. Students enrolled in EHS 301: Global Environmental Challenges and EHS 302: Advanced Environmental Health, instructed by Md Rezwan Siddiqui, Senior Lecturer, and Kazi Nujhat Naila, Lecturer of the respective department under the BSS in Population and Public Health Sciences (PPHS) program, took part in this visit.
The visit was designed to bridge classroom theory with practical understanding of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies. Hosted within the CCDB’s expansive 22-hectare campus in Sreepur, Gazipur—Bangladesh’s first LEED-certified climate knowledge hub—students engaged in immersive learning sessions, interacted with climate experts, and toured live demonstration models of over 100 innovative technologies tailored to the country’s five ecological zones.
In a landmark development from the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between East West University and CCDB was explored and is in progress, formalizing a collaboration that will offer students long-term opportunities in climate research, capacity building, and sector-specific employment. This partnership aims to position EWU students as emerging leaders in climate resilience and public health in Bangladesh.
This field visit is part of a broader initiative by the Department of Social Relations to integrate applied learning into the undergraduate curriculum, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national climate action priorities.
