Master of Population, Reproductive Health, Gender and Development (MPRHGD)



The Course/Program is designed to develop human resources with expertise in collection, analysis and interpretation of population, reproductive health (RH) and gender statistics, integration of population, RH and gender concerns into development strategies and formulation, management and evaluation of policies and programmes addressing current & emerging population, RH & gender issues.

Program Mission

Enhancing the capabilities of the learners and training them as productive, articulate, efficient and effective professionals/managers is the primary mission of the MPRHGD Program of East West University. The program intends to provide students with skill and creative mind for improved understanding and effective management of population, reproductive health, gender and development issues.

Description of the Program: The MPRHGD program is designed to develop human resources with expertise in analysis, interpretation and practical application of population, reproductive health (RH), gender and statistics. Courses of this program enable learners to acquire an operational command to integrate population, RH and gender concerns into the management, evaluation and formulation of development strategies and programs. The program bestows upon the learner skills required to assess and understand contemporary as well as future issues of population, RH, gender and development. The approach is multi-perspective, addressing issues from theoretical, practical and policy angles providing students with an exceptional overview of the art and science of understanding the inter-relationships between RH issues, population and development.

Eligibility

  1. A four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a UGC recognized university/college in any social science and science subjects (anthropology, economics, geography, sociology, social work, psychology, population studies, health sciences/management, medicine & engineering). Any one with a Master’s degree from a recognized university in any other subject with at least two years of experience in population & health related fields.
  2. At least a second division/class in all public examinations or a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  3. Must pass EWU admission test. Students having a score of 550 in TOEFL and 300 in GRE are admitted directly without an admission test.
  4. Professional experience in population and allied fields is preferred but not required.

Degree Requirement

  1. 48 credit hours (including a range of foundation, core, specialized, elective courses with Thesis and Practicum/Internship) with minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.

Length of Program: 48 credit hours or 5 Semesters

The program is designed for 5 semesters of study at East West University for working and non-working students. Students enrolled in this program on a full-time full-load basis may be able to complete it in less than 2 years or 5 semesters.

  • Admission Requirements:

  • v) Professional experience in population and allied fields is preferred but not required.


  • Credit Requirement: Total minimum credit requirement to complete the program:48 credit hours (including a range of core/ specialized, optional courses, General Education courses,and Thesis or Practicum/Internship/ Project) with minimum grade point average of 2.6 on a 4.0 point scale.

  • Total class weeks in a Year/semester: 15 weeks (150 minutes class + 150 minutes consultation in each week)

  • Maximum academic years of completion: 5 Years

  • Academic Calendar: Spring, Summer (Short Semester), and Fall: East West University divides its academic calendar into three semesters each with 14-week duration. Spring runs from February – May; Summer runs from June – August; and Fall runs from September- December.

  • Class Hours-Total class weeks in a Year/ semester: 15 weeks (150 minutes class + 150 minutes consultation in each week). MPRHGD classes are scheduled in holy-day (Friday-Saturday) at 9 AM to 6 PM and evening classes on weekdays at 6 P M to 9 PM.  The university follows the government schedule for holidays.

  • Scholarships: Candidate securing the highest score (min. 75%) in the EWU Admission Test is offered a merit scholarship covering full tuition waiver for 24 credits spread over three semesters.

    Faculty: The core faculty members teaching the MPRHGD Programme include reputed scholars in the field with a long national and international experience in teaching, research and policy formulation.  Almost all of them have Ph.D. from reputed foreign universities. Highly qualified adjunct faculty from other teaching and research institutions are also involved in teaching the courses.

    Graduation Requirements: 48 Credit Hours: To graduate, a student must earn 48 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average, (CGPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0-point scale. Of the 48 credit hours, 6 credits from GED courses, 12 credits are from the foundation level courses, 12 credits are from the core courses, 12 credits are from specialized courses, 6/9 credits are from the elective courses and 6/3 credits from thesis writing with a seminar presentation or Internship/Practicum.

    Transfer of credits and course waiver: Credits for up to a third of the program requirement i.e. 16 credits may be transferred from other comparable academic institutions provided the following criteria are met:

    The courses were taken at master level from a recognized university/institute prior to admission at EWU.

    Course contents matches the courses prescribed in the MPRHGD program at EWU.

    The grades obtained were at least B or equivalent.

    Grades earned in these courses are not counted towards calculation of GPA at EWU or for awarding merit scholarships/need based financial assistance and award of Honor Rolls.

    Residency Requirements: In order to receive an MPRHGD degree, a student must complete a minimum of 32 credits as full-time student at East West University.

    Grading Philosophy: East West University is committed to high academic standard that reflects real world aspiration for excellence.  Academic performance is evaluated with the help of a full range of grades ‘A’ through ‘F’ as listed below:

  • NOTE: Individual faculty members are allowed to deviate in terms of numerical scale under special circumstances.
  • Time Frame: As mentioned earlier students are expected to normally complete their MPRHGD degree within 24 months from the date of their admission. However, under exigencies of certain circumstances, the time limit may be extended up to 60 months.

    Financial Information: Students are required to pay the admission fee, tuition for the incoming semester, computer lab fee, library fee and student activity fee at the time of initial admission. The fee structure for the MPRHGD program is as under:
