Students of DSR Conduct Field Visits to Narayanganj and Narsingdi
On April 10, 2026, students enrolled in the PPHS 204 course participated in a field visit, conducted under the supervision and guidance of Professor Dr. Md. Mobarak Hossain Khan to bridge theoretical knowledge and practical application in the field of public health research.
The field visit took place in Narayanganj and Narsingdi, two regions that may offer diverse demographic and socio-economic contexts. During the visit, students conducted structured surveys on ageing populations, health conditions, access to healthcare services, and socio-demographic characteristics. The selected themes allowed students to explore critical issues related to population ageing, a growing concern in Bangladesh and globally.
Students were actively involved in the entire research process, including questionnaire development, administration, respondent engagement, and ethical data collection practices. They interacted directly with community members, which helped them develop communication skills and gain insights into the lived experiences of older adults. This exposure not only enhanced their understanding of field realities but also highlighted the challenges associated with collecting reliable and valid data in community settings.
This hands-on experience enabled students to apply quantitative research methods, data collection techniques, and analytical skills in real-world settings. The activity strengthened their practical understanding of demographic and health issues while enhancing their capacity in data-driven research and report writing.
In addition, our students will utilize their collected data under the course PPHS 205: Quantitative Data Analysis using Software, Tools and Report Writing. During the course period, our students are expected to gain basic knowledge regarding data entry, screening, data analysis (basic to advanced), and report writing based on their analysis.
