Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 2025

Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters

Each year, October is celebrated as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ or ‘The Pink October’ to raise awareness about breast cancer. This year, the theme of the month was ‘Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.’ Millions of women around the world suffer from deadly breast cancer, which is one of the leading causes of cancer death among women. It is foremost to create awareness among women regarding risk factors associated with breast cancer, its early signs and symptoms, screening tests for early diagnosis, and available confirmatory diagnostic and treatment facilities in the country, prevention, including self-breast examination, etc. Cancer treatment is a long, stressful journey and needs palliative care along with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy. Financial and mental support from the family and community can boost the confidence of breast cancer patients in fighting this battle with courage and high optimism. With this context, the Department of Social Relations celebrated this year’s breast cancer awareness month in October 2025 with great enthusiasm. Under the guidance of Dr. Marzia Zaman Sultana, Senior Lecturer of DSR, students of ‘PHS 305: Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries’ prepared some colorful posters on different aspects of breast cancer to create awareness among the students, faculty members, and other staff of the university. They displayed their posters to faculty members and participated in question-and-answer sessions. Department Chairperson Dr. Touhida Tasnima, Professor Dr. Md. Mobarak Hossain Khan, and other faculty and staff members were present during the poster exhibition. Many of them were wearing pink dresses and pink ribbons to show their solidarity on Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
