East West University Law Clinic Organized Certificate Awarding Ceremony
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Law Clinic 6.0 was held at East West University on the 26th of September at the Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery (Room No. 126). The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Ruhul Amin, Joint Secretary (Senior District and Sessions Judge), Ministry of Law and Justice. Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer of East West University, graced the ceremony as the Special Guest.
The program began with opening remarks and a warm welcome to the guests by Mr. Ali Mashraf, Lecturer, Department of Law, East West University. Mr. Ruhul Amin, the chief guest of the program, emphasized the importance of practical learning and praised the EWU Law Clinic for being a unique initiative of it. Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury delivered a speech reflecting his valuable insights, professional experiences, and reiterated East West University’s unwavering support for the law clinic.
Mr. Sayeed Hossain Sarwar, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, and Coordinator of the East West University Law Clinic, presented a comprehensive recap of the activities undertaken under Law Clinic 6.0 during the Spring 2025 semester. He highlighted the Clinic’s core philosophy of “learning by doing,” emphasizing the importance of Clinical Legal Education in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, as envisioned in the Law Commission’s recommendations. The presentation showcased various interactive and practice-oriented sessions, including discussions led by distinguished legal experts such as Dr. Kamal Hossain, Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud, Barrister Amir-ul Islam, and Judge Blakey of the US court. He reflected on the Street Law initiatives, which engaged diverse community groups including school and university students, street children, slum dwellers, and day laborers on issues such as human rights, road safety, cyberbullying prevention, rights during arrest and detention, and access to legal aid. He also noted the academic and social impact of these outreach activities, the students’ experiential learning outcomes, and the Law Clinic’s growing presence in international forums such as the GAJE and Asia Pro Bono Conference, where East West University’s efforts were recognized.
K. M. Radhit Ahmed Snigdho, LL.M. student and intern at Digitally Right, shared his experience with Law Clinic 6.0 in Spring 2025. The Clinic’s activities, including Street Law outreach, helped students engage with the community on human rights and cyber safety, while enhancing their practical legal skills and social awareness. Furthermore Md. Asif Arman Rishad, an LL.M. student at East West University and intern at Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), shared his experience with Law Clinic 5.0 and its impact on his early career. He highlighted how participation in the Clinic helped him develop practical legal skills, gain confidence, and secure an internship at one of the country’s leading legal aid organizations. Additionally, the connections and mentorship opportunities through the Clinic enabled him to work under a senior learned advocate as a junior associate in a reputed chamber to further enhance his professional growth.
Certificates were presented to all participants of Law Clinic 6.0 for their active engagement and contributions during the Spring 2025 semester. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub, Chairperson and Associate Professor, Department of Law, East West University, expressing sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest and the Special Guest. She also thanked Professor Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Adviser, Department of Law, whose intellectual leadership actually initiated the program, and Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairman, Board of Trustees, for being the principle benefactor with unwavering support. She concluded her speech by thanking the faculty members, distinguished speakers, and all participants for their support and efforts in making the program a success.
