The Department of Information Studies Celebrates the World Book and Copyright Day 2025
The Department of Information Studies, East West University organized a seminar titled “The future of books and publishing in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) landscape” as a part of the celebration of the ‘World Book and Copyright Day’ on 23 April 2025 (Wednesday) at Razia Samad Lecture Gallery (Room No. 242). The seminar focused on the enduring value of books in the age of AI, the impacts of AI on the publishing industry, challenges to creativity, and possible solutions to these challenges.
A K M Sohel, Additional Secretary, Wing Chief, United Nations, Economic Relations Division of the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh graced the seminar as the Chief Guest.
Mahruk Mohiuddin, Managing Director of The University Press Limited (UPL) joined the seminar as the Special Guest. The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies. The seminar started with a welcome speech by Dr. Farzana Akhter, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, East West University.
The Chief guest of the seminar emphasized the importance of reading and encouraged the youth to read and learn moral values, connect with the past, and increase general knowledge. The special guest of the seminar Mahruk Mohiuddin recognized the power of books as a bridge between generations and across cultures.
The chair of the seminar Professor Dr. Dilara Begum highlighted the values of reading books and thanked all the participants for attending this seminar.
