The Department of Information Studies at East West University organized a workshop titled “Smart Information User: Literacy for the digital age” on 19 May 2026 (Tuesday) at the Library Annex.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Prasanna Ranaweera, a distinguished Library and Information Science (LIS) academic from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. A total of 22 participants registered for workshop including faculty members, information professionals and students.

The workshop focused on the significance of information literacy in the age of digital media, artificial intelligence and misinformation, and disinformation. The participants learned about evaluating online sources, combatting misinformation and fake news and maintaining digital ethics.

The workshop started with the opening remarks of Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies followed by interactive discussion, brainstorming sessions and practical activities. The workshop concluded with question-and-answer session and certificates giving ceremony.
