The Department of Information Studies at East West University organized a guest lecture titled “Information Literacy and Higher Education” on 17 May 2026 (Sunday) at the Shelly A. Mubdi Lecture Gallery.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Prasanna Ranaweera, a distinguished Library and Information Science (LIS) academic from the University of Colombo and Director of the National Institute of Library and Information Sciences (NILIS). In his lecture, he discussed information literacy, critical thinking, different models of information literacy and their applications in higher education.

The program began with a welcome speech by Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session.

During his academic visit to Bangladesh, the department will organize additional academic sessions and collaborative activities. These initiatives are expected to enhance knowledge sharing, academic collaboration, and professional exchange between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The Department of Information Studies expressed its appreciation to Dr. Ranaweera for sharing his expertise and reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and international collaboration in the field of information studies.
