Professor Dr. Dilara Begum delivered Speech at UNESCO Dhaka Office
Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies, East West University, was invited as a Guest Speaker at an interactive discussion in celebration of the World Press Freedom Day Event on 03 May 2026 at Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), Meghomala Auditorium, MIDAS Center, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The event was jointly organized by UNESCO and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), under the theme: “Rebuilding Public Trust: Media Independence and Democratic Accountability in Bangladesh.
World Press Freedom Day, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993, is observed globally to reaffirm press freedom and freedom of expression as essential pillars of democratic governance and sustainable development.
In her address, Professor Dr. Dilara emphasized the critical role media literacy, and responsible media practices. She also highlighted how the transformation of digital media has the impact on creating both opportunities and challenges in the digital age.The program brought together key stakeholders, including government representatives, media professionals, civil society, academia, development partners, and youth to explore challenges, share perspectives, and identify practical pathways to strengthen media credibility and public trust.
