Professor Dr. Dilara Begum and Md. Hasinul Elahi Secured Research Grant of BDT 10 Lakh from IDRA to Assess Insurance Literacy in Bangladesh

Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies, East West University and Md. Hasinul Elahi, Senior Lecture of the same department secured a 10-Lakh BDT research grant from the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) to lead a new national study. They will collaborate on a project titled "Proposing a comprehensive strategy to enhance insurance literacy in Bangladesh," an initiative aimed at dismantling the barriers that currently limit insurance penetration across the country. The project was selected following an intensely competitive call for proposals that saw submissions from around more than hundred research projects across the country.

As Lead Researcher, expert and global leader in the field of information literacy, Professor Dr. Begum brings extensive academic expertise to the project, while Md. Hasinul Elahi joins the effort as the primary Research Associate to provide specialized analytical support. The team’s work, which formally commenced on 09 February 2026, is currently in its active research phase.

The research grant signifies a major investment by IDRA in human capital and academic partnership. By funding the team of Dr. Begum and Mr. Elahi, the regulatory authority aims to generate data-driven insights that will be helpful in future policy making. The ongoing research is expected to identify why insurance remains misunderstood by many and will provide the government with a strategic roadmap to foster a more financially literate and resilient population.
