Seminar on “Media and Information Literate Cities: Voices, Powers, and Change Makers”
The Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University has successfully arranged an interactive seminar titled “Media and Information Literate Cities: Voices, Powers, and Change Makers” on 30th October 2018 which was held at the closing ceremony of week-long seventh annual program “Global Media and Information Literacy Week, 2018”.
Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, East West University graced the event as the Chief Guest. Ms. Beatrice Kaldun, UNESCO Country Representative in Bangladesh was present as Keynote Speaker. Ms. Kirsty Crawford, Project Director-Libraries Unlimited, British Council was invited as Special Guest and Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management coordinated the seminar as program chair.
In her speech, Ms. Beatrice Kaldun, UNESCO Country Representative in Bangladesh emphasized that Media and Information Literacy can help to achieve the SDGs. She also emphasized on how youth can contribute in developing MIL cities.
Ms. Kirsty Crawford, Project Director-Libraries Unlimited, British Council focused in her speech how the libraries can contribute to develop MIL cities in developing countries like Bangladesh.
The seminar was divided in two sessions, inauguration and prize giving ceremony and a technical session where the Keynote Speaker and Special Guest discussed on the theme. The Participation from more than 120 people including Chairpersons from different Departments, faculty members, eminent personalities in the field of information science, LIS professionals, and students made the program a great success.
