Seminar on Media and Information Literacy for Smart Citizens

Department of Information Studies organized a seminar entitled "Media and Information Literacy for Smart Citizens" on Tuesday, 04 April 2023, 3:00 pm at S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery where the keynote speakers were venerated Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Professor, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka and honorable Dr. Jagtar Singh, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, and Chairperson, Human Resource Development Cell, Guru Kashi University, India. The program was chaired by Dr. Farzana Akhter, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, East West University. The esteemed Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson and Associate Professor, as well as faculty members, administrative officials, and students from the Department of Information Studies at East West University, were present. Participants also included the chairperson, faculty members, students from various departments, Information Club executives, and information professionals from the East West University libraries. The esteemed program chair gave a welcome address to start the seminar. Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq then gave the keynote speech. In his keynote address, he highlighted the significance of media and information literacy for building smart, well-informed citizens and the role that informed citizens play in the development of a sophisticated society. Another invited speaker, Dr. Jagtar Singh, was unable to participate online due to technical difficulties, but he sent a message that was read by senior lecturer Md. Hasinul Elahi from the Department of Information Studies at East West University. After that, the audience were given the opportunity to ask the keynote speaker questions they had, and the speaker responded to each one. The Q&A session was very interactive. Eminent Dr. Dilara Begum delivered a vote of thanks at the seminar's conclusion.
