International Seminar on “Technology, Innovation and Trends in Libraries, Archives and Museums (LAMs)”
The Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University Arranged a day-long international seminar titled “Technology, Innovation and Trends in Libraries, Archives and Museums (LAMs)” on 4 April 2018 at S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery. The main aim of the seminar was to discover new technologies, innovative services and modern trends in libraries, archives and museums all over the world and to bring together researchers, information professionals, employers, media specialists, educators, policymakers and all other related parties from around the world to exchange knowledge, experiences and insights, and discuss recent technological developments, innovation and current issues in both theory and practice. Dr. Susmita Chakraborty, Associate Professor, University of Calcutta, India honored the international seminar by attending as a Keynote Speaker. Among other invited speakers, there were national and international level scholars and practitioners including Dr. Parikshit Mondal, Assistant Professor, Calcutta University, India, Ms. Rumana Rahman, Lecturer, Lalmatia Mohila College, Ms. Rumana Eakub, Executive, Gyantapas Abdur Razaq Bidyapeeth and Afrin Sultana, Library Circulation Officer, East West University. The seminar was divided into three segments: Inaugural Ceremony, Technical Sessions and Closing Ceremony.
At the inception, Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University announced the inauguration of the day-long seminar. After that, The Technical Session-I started which was chaired by Dr. Dilara. The Technical Session-I started with the presentation of Dr. Susmita. She discussed the gradual development of Information Science education in India. There were other four papers on that particular session. After the lunch break, the Technical Session-II started where the session chair was Abdur Rahman Sumon and Md. Hasinul Elahi, Lecturer, Department of Information Studies and Library Management. In that session, total eleven papers had been presented. The presenters of each session included scholars, researchers, practitioners and students. A total of sixteen papers were presented at the seminar which conferred and illustrated the burning issues related to technology and innovation in the field of information science and libraries.
A. Z. M. Shafiqul Alam, the honorable treasurer, Esat West University honored the closing ceremony of the international seminar as the chief guest. Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Professor, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka was the special guest of the mentioned ceremony. In their brief speech, both of them congratulate the department chairperson for arranging a seminar on such an issue which must be addressed in modern times. In concluding remarks, the program chair Dr. Dilara gave a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, guests and participants for their deliberate participation in the international seminar. She also promised the audience that this department will continue to arrange such kind of programs in future for the development of students and professionals of information science. The ceremony ends with giving the certificates among national and international participants.
