Field Trip at Zinda Park: Sociological Insight from a Community Village
A day long field visit was organized for the students of the courses of SOC 101: Introduction to Sociology, SOC 106: Historical Sociology, at a community village named Zinda Park at Rupganj, Narayanganj on October 26, 2019. The main purpose of this field visit was to orient students with community initiative to build a community park and introducing them the role of different forces in the formation and evolution of society. Approximately forty students attended in the field visit.
Zinda park is well known as a famous park for spending a leisure time and getting connection with the nature. It is a community park and known as community village. The initiative started from 1980 with 5000 members of “Ogropothik Polio Shomoti”. There is a community clinic, decorated library, restaurant, mosque with lots of various trees and five lakes in the park. The park has three management teams to monitor and manage the activities. Now, Zinda village is renowned as ideal village.
The field visit was facilitated by Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Chairperson of the Department, Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer Masun Billah and Rasel Hussain, and Lecturer Manzuma Ahsan, S.M. Anowarul Kayes Shimul, and Md. Helal Uddin. At last, they returned to the campus at around 6.00 PM.
