East West University Information Club, commemorated the International Mother Language Day

East West University Information Club commemorated the Shaheed Dibosh and International Mother Language Day 2018 by organizing a Quiz Competition for the students of EWU on 19th February 2018. A group of two members were delegated from each Departments to take part in the Quiz Competition. The theme of the Competition was to test the knowledge of the students regarding the history and significance of 21st February, bangla grammar, bangla literature etc. Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson & Associate Professor, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, & Librarian (In-charge) East West University have conducted the Quiz contest on an interactive online platform Kahoot. The moderators of the Club Md. Hasinul Elahi and Tamanna Hossain, Lecturers at the Dept of Information Studies and Library Management was also present during the Quiz competition.

The winning teams were from the Department of Information Studies and Library Management (1st position), Applied Statistics (2nd position) and Pharmacy (3rd position) respectively. The prize giving Ceremony was held on 20th February, 2018. A. Z. M. Shafikul Alam, Treasurer East West University graced the program as Chief Guest, Dr. Md. Roknuzzaman, Professor, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka honored the program as Special Guest, and the Program was Chaired by Dr. Dilara Begum. At the very outset of the program a minute of silence was observed in the memory of the Vasha Shaheeds. Moderator, EWUIC Md. Hasinul Elahi in his speech mentioned about the importance of the Language movement in our lives. He stated that EWUIC has taken initiatives as such to influence the understanding and knowledge of today’s generation. Dr. Md. Roknuzzaman, Professor, briefly mentioned about the significant days to remember from the past. He mentioned the 1952 language movement was an initiative towards independence.  A. Z. M. Shafikul Alam, Treasurer East West University emphasized on the importance of mother tongue as well the necessity of being bilingual to survive in this era. The program closed with a kind vote of thanks from the program chair.
