Department of Information Studies Hosts Seminar on Digital Frontiers of Information

The Department of Information Studies at East West University (EWU) successfully organized a seminar titled "The New Digital Frontiers of Information: Media and Information Literacy for Public-Interest Information" on November 4, 2024. The event was held at the S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery and marked the celebration of Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2024. The seminar featured a distinguished panel of speakers who delved into the evolving landscape of digital information and the importance of media and information literacy.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Founder and Member of the Board of Trustees of EWU, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Roknuzzaman, Chairman of the Department of Information Science and Library Management at the University of Dhaka, delivered the keynote speech on the theme of this year's Global Media and Information Literacy Week. Ms. Noore Jannat Proma, Lead of the Communication & Information Sector at UNESCO Dhaka Office, spoke on the topic as a UNESCO representative. Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer of EWU, shared his insights on the theme. Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies at EWU, delivered the welcome remarks. And Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, chaired the program.

A lively question-and-answer session followed the presentations, providing an opportunity for participants to engage with the speakers and gain further clarification. The seminar highlighted the increasing significance of media and information literacy in today's digital age. It emphasized the need for individuals to develop critical thinking skills, digital literacy, and the ability to discern credible information from misinformation. A large number of students have attended the seminar.
