Celebrating the International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September, established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

The theme for the International Day of Peace in 2018 is “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70”.  The theme celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. People in cities, communities and villages worldwide are engaged in the International Day of Peace in diverse and meaningful ways.

The Department of Information Studies and Library Management in association with the East West University Library have observed the International Day of Peace on 23rd September 2018 with a series of innovative activities involving the students. The event began with forming a human chain representing the symbol of peace at the open ground of East West University. Many students were engaged in brain storming session to recognize the importance of the Declaration of Human Rights and to share their opinion and understandings on “right to peace”. The students came up with many innovative insights on “right to peace” followed by a photo session to share their views in the social sites.
