EWU Law Students Participate in the World Maritime Day 2025 Seminar
Students from the Department of Law, East West University, proudly participated in the “World Maritime Day 2025 Seminar” held on 25 September 2025 at the CIRDAP International Conference Centre, Dhaka. Organized by the Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS), the seminar was themed “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity” and aimed to promote dialogue on the significance of maritime law, ocean governance, sustainability, and international cooperation.
The seminar was chaired by Justice AFM Abdur Rahman (Retd.), Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He emphasized on the strategic importance of Bangladesh’s blue economy. Rear Admiral Dr. Khandakar Akhter Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Maritime University, delivered an address as the Chief Guest on the intersection of artificial intelligence and ocean conservation. The event brought together policymakers, government officials, legal scholars, and maritime professionals to discuss key issues such as maritime security, environmental protection, sustainable use of marine resources, and the evolving challenges within the international maritime legal framework.
The students from the Department of Law Saroar Mohammad, Israt Jahan Sadia, Mahmudul Hasan, Afrin Sultana Anika, Assadeka Tabassum Jaman and Rabeya Sultana, represented East West University in the seminar and actively participated in the interactive sessions. Their participation not only enriched their academic understanding of maritime legal issues but also offered them an invaluable platform to engage directly with distinguished experts and policy leaders in the field. The Department of Law extends heartfelt congratulations to the participating students for their active engagement and expresses sincere gratitude to BMLS for hosting such an impactful event that bridges academia, policy, and practice in the realm of maritime law.
