The Department of Law, East West University (EWU), organized an educational visit to the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, as a part of the course LAW0421-107: Legal System of Bangladesh. Seventy-five first-semester students took part in the visit, led by Ms. Farzana Rifat Siddique, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, East West University. The visit was aimed at providing students with practical exposure to the judicial system of Bangladesh, extending their learning beyond the classroom into the functioning of the apex court.

The visit was arranged in collaboration with the Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS) and the Supreme Court Mediators Forum (SCMF). During the visit, students observed the proceedings of one Division Bench hearing civil matters, one Division Bench hearing criminal matters, and one Single Bench dealing with Company and Admiralty matters, offering them a first-hand understanding of how different categories of cases are heard and argued before the Supreme Court.

Following the court observation, a brief Experience-Sharing Interactive Session was held with the students at the Supreme Court Mediation Center. The session featured a series of speakers, including Ms. Fahima Akhter Riya and Ms. Sohani Islam Somapty who represented the Student Wing of BIMS. Dr. Simran Napit, BIMS International Trainer, and Ms. Aditi Karki, Chairman, Student Wing, BIMS, joined the session virtually from Nepal. The session was also addressed by Mr. Shah Md. Babar, Accredited Mediator and Secretary, Supreme Court Mediators Forum (SCMF); Mr. Arif Khan, Deputy Attorney General, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; and Mr. Mahbub Islam, President, BIMS. The session was moderated by Ms. Ifat Hasan Shammi, Secretary General, Student Wing, BIMS. Ms. Farzana Rifat Siddique delivered the Vote of Thanks on behalf of the Department of Law, EWU, to the members of BIMS and SCMF for their dedicated efforts in organizing the event.

The program concluded with a visit to the Attorney General's Office, where Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Hon’ble Attorney General of Bangladesh, spoke to the students for about half an hour on their responsibilities, as law students and future legal professionals, towards the country. The Department of Law, EWU extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Shah Md. Babar, Alumnus of EWU Law Department and Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, to the student volunteers and to Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub, Chairperson and Associate Professor, Department of Law, for their unwavering support which made this visit possible.
