EWU Qualifies for the Advanced Rounds of the 18th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition

The Department of Law, East West University is proud to announce that an EWU team has qualified for the Advanced Rounds of the 18th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition, one of the most prestigious international human rights moot court competitions in the world.

This year, a record 122 teams from universities across more than 30 countries submitted memorials for the competition. Following a rigorous evaluation process, only the top 50 teams worldwide advanced to the oral preliminary rounds, where participants argued before distinguished judges and legal professionals from around the globe. After 200 oral pleading sessions conducted over five days, only 24 teams earned a place in the Advanced Rounds to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13–17 July 2026, with the Final Round taking place at the Palais des Nations, the headquarters of the United Nations.

East West University is honoured to be among these 24 teams and the only university from Bangladesh to qualify for the in-person rounds in Geneva. EWU will compete alongside globally renowned institutions including the University of Oxford (United Kingdom), University of New South Wales (Australia), St. Thomas University (Canada), Koç University (Türkiye), National Law School of India University, Hidayatullah National Law University, National Law University Allahabad, Strathmore University, Kabarak University, Kenyatta University, Ukrainian Catholic University, and several other leading universities from across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas.

The East West University team consists of Md. Salmun Alam (Oralist), Shagufta Chowdhury Adrita (Oralist), Nur-A Ariya Alam, Lecturer, Department of Law (Coach), and Abdur Rahman Jobair (Observer).

This achievement reflects the dedication, perseverance, and excellence of the team members and further highlights the Department of Law's growing presence in international advocacy and human rights competitions. It is also a proud moment for Bangladesh, as East West University will be the country's sole representative at the Advanced Rounds in Geneva.

The team extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Law and the East West University administration for their continuous support and encouragement. The team also sincerely thanks the faculty members, alumni, former mooters, mentors, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers whose guidance, feedback, and support have contributed immensely to this achievement.

The Department of Law congratulates the team on this remarkable accomplishment and wishes them every success as they prepare to represent East West University and Bangladesh on the global stage in Geneva.
