EWU Law Students Attended Youth Network Building Workshop by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
Students from the Department of Law, at East West University attended a day-long workshop on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM) titled “Building a Youth Network for a Better Future” organized by Eastern University, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The workshop was conducted under the project Preventing and Addressing Trafficking in Human Beings and the Smuggling of Migrants. The event brought together students from 17 public and private universities across the country. Two students from the Department of Law at East West University, Ramisha Nujhat and Fagun Das participated in the insightful sessions. They expressed their sincere gratitude for providing the opportunity to gain valuable insights into trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.
The program commenced with opening remarks by Mr. Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Head of the Department of Law, followed by a welcome address by Mr. A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean of the School of Law. Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, attended the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest. The sessions began with Ms. Tasneem Binta Karim, National Programme Coordinator of UNODC, who provided an overview of the project and emphasized a human rights-based approach to trafficking in persons. This was followed by a session conducted by Mr. Marcus Vinicius Paes, Law Enforcement Advisor of UNODC, who explained the key concepts and the distinction between trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. The workshop was further enriched by Mr. Mostafizur Rahman, Additional Senior Superintendent of Police of Trafficking in Human Beings Cell (CID) and the final technical session was conducted by Mr. A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean, School of Law, Eastern University. Throughout the day, participants actively engaged in group discussions, interactive activities, and a quiz competition, making the sessions both engaging and informative.
The workshop concluded with a closing ceremony where Ms. Rebeka Khan, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, attended as the Chief Guest and delivered the closing remarks. The program ended with a certificate distribution ceremony.
