EWU Law Students Join National Discussion on Digital Governance and Inclusive Lawmaking

Students from the Department of Law at East West University attended the DRAPAC Bangladesh National Convening 2026, organized jointly by Digitally Right and EngageMedia, organizations working on digital rights. Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and Dnet served as session partners. The conference was held on Tuesday, 28 April 2026 at the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. The theme of the conference was “Meaningful, Inclusive Lawmaking.” Around 100 participants from diverse stakeholder groups joined the event, including policymakers and government representatives, civil society, human rights defenders, private sector, industry representatives, legal experts, academics, youth leaders and community representatives. Participants engaged in several insightful sessions, including “Advancing Inclusive Policymaking,” “Multi-Stakeholder Engagement in Shaping Digital Governance in Bangladesh,” “From Exclusion to Empowerment: Accountable AI Governance in Bangladesh,” and “The Human Dimension of Policy: Tech Policy Fellows’ Perspectives.”

A plenary session on advancing inclusive policymaking included insights from Dr. Iftekharuzzaman of Transparency International Bangladesh, Rehan Asif Asad from the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology (Bangladesh), Namrata Maheshwari, Susan Vize of UNESCO Dhaka Office, and Asha Mehreen Amin of The Daily Star. Another session discussed multi-stakeholder engagement in digital governance, featuring Mahmud Hossain of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Pratyush Rao of Telenor Asia, Ruzan Sarwar of Meta, and Sadia Haque of ShareTrip. A further session explored accountable AI governance in Bangladesh, with speakers including Sadman Rahman of the International Labour Organization, Ruhi Naz of Research Initiatives Bangladesh, Priya Ahsan Chowdhury of Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates, and Rakibul Hasan of Link3 Technologies.

Three students from the Department of Law of East West University, Israt Jahan Sadia, Saroar Mohammad, and Tanjim Maliha participated in the insightful sessions. They express their heartfelt gratitude to Digitally Right for the invitation and the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on digital governance and inclusive lawmaking.
