EWU Law Makes Its Mark at the National Legal Debate Championship
Students from the Department of Law, East West University (EWU) achieved a remarkable milestone by advancing to the Semi-Finals of the 3rd NILS Bangladesh National Legal Debate Championship (NNLDC) 2026. The national-level competition was organized by the Network for International Law Students (NILS) Bangladesh and hosted by Daffodil International University on January 30, 2026.
Representing East West University under the team name “Virtual Vigilantes,” the students demonstrated exceptional advocacy skills and strategic depth, securing their place among the top teams in the country. The team comprised Mahamudul Hasan Maruf, Jerin Tasnim, and Jannatul Ferdous Othoi, all 3rd Semester LL.B. (Hons.) students at the time of the competition. Mahamudul Hasan Maruf served as both Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, effectively handling the critical Rebuttal and Surrebuttal segments. Jerin Tasnim, acting as the Government Whip, presented arguments with notable confidence, precision, and clarity. Jannatul Ferdous Othoi, in the role of Assistant Prime Minister, contributed through well-structured arguments and strong coordination with her teammates. Out of 32 teams representing 22 universities across Bangladesh, the advancement of “Virtual Vigilantes” to the semi-final round stands as a significant achievement. The competition featured participation from both LL.B. and LL.M. students, including many final-year and postgraduate competitors with substantial experience in legal debates. Notably, “Virtual Vigilantes” was the most junior team in the competition, yet they qualified for the semi-finals with the second-highest cumulative score, maintaining the second position until the semi-final stage. Competing against far more experienced teams, their performance was especially commendable and inspiring.
The Department of Law, East West University, warmly congratulates the team “Virtual Vigilantes” for their outstanding achievement and looks forward to their continued success in future national and international legal debate competitions. It is also noteworthy that another senior EWU team, “Verdict Vault,” also qualified for the semi-finals, further underscoring the Department’s growing excellence on the national debating stage.
