Professor Dr. Dilara Begum Facilitates Key Session on “Rethinking Academia in the AI Era” at The Maldives National University
In a significant international academic engagement, Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies at East West University (EWU), successfully facilitated a specialized session titled “Rethinking Academia in the AI Era” at the Faculty of Arts, The Maldives National University (MNU) on September 23, 2026.
The session brought together faculty members, researchers, and academic leaders at MNU to deliberate on the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on higher education, research methodologies, and instructional frameworks.
Throughout the session, Professor Dr. Begum explored the practical and policy dimensions of integrating AI within university settings. Key topics included analyzing emerging trends in student AI usage, building comprehensive digital and AI literacy across disciplines, preserving academic integrity, and instilling responsible, ethical usage habits among scholars. A notable highlight of the discussion was the exploration of establishing an AI Literacy Desk as an institutional support initiative designed to guide students, researchers, and faculty members toward safe, productive, and ethical AI integration within higher education.
