Department of Information Studies Organizes Seminar on Responsive and Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Research and Academia

The Department of Information Studies, East West University organized a seminar titled “Responsive and Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Research and Academia” on 13 July 2026 (Monday) at the S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery (126), East West University. The seminar focused on raising comprehensive awareness within our academic community regarding the ethical implications, data privacy issues, and potential biases inherent in AI applications.                                     

The seminar started with the welcome speech of Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor of East West University.

The event featured a keynote address by distinguished expert Professor Dr. Susmita Chakraborty, from the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Calcutta, who is currently serving as the Visiting Professor of the Department of Information Studies, East West University this semester. In her keynote speech, Dr. Susmita focuses on several AI powered tools in research and academia, and she also highlighted the ethical consideration of using AI based tools.

The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies. Dr. Dilara shared her insights on the significance of policies on using AI. Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, East West University was also present at the seminar.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the program chair Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, who expressed sincere appreciation to the keynote speaker, distinguished guests, participants, and everyone involved in making the event a success.

The seminar has provided the participants with enhanced AI literacy, fostering a clear understanding of how to ethically deploy these tools in daily research and teaching.
