CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE 2021 BY THE DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION STUDIES AND LIBRARY MANAGEMENT, EAST WEST UNIVERSITY IN ASSOCIATION WITH EAST WEST UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
Each year United Nations makes a request to the all to observe a day of non-violence and cease-fire that day is mentioned as “International Day of Peace”. From 1981, each year on 21 September, the day has been celebrated around the world. Responding to the call of United Nations with the keep pace of the whole world, Department of Information Studies and Library Management (ISLM), East West University in association with East West University Library celebrated “International Day of Peace 2021”. This year internationally the day will be observed on the theme of "Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world". To observe the day, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University in association with East West University Library organized an "Online Quiz Competition" through educational gaming software Kahoot. All the students of East West University were eligible for the quiz competition. More than 35 participants from different departments of EWU took part in this competition. Among them, three were selected for the awarded e-certificates. Around 60 participants including faculty members, students from different departments were present in this online session.
Dr. Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management & Librarian (In-charge), East West University congratulated all winners and addressed that information professionals as well as libraries can help to enlighten young minds and teach them how to be kind to others, be thoughtful of people’s circumstances and share information that will help make the world a more understanding and sustainable place.
From the year of 2018 East West University has celebrated the day. Here, it is worth mentioning that East West University’s “International Day of Peace 2021” event got places also in the Libraries for Peace (L4P) map. L4P map was created by Mortenson Center for International Library Programs, USA to strengthen international ties among libraries and librarians worldwide for the promotion of international education, understanding, and peace.
