Men and climate change: some thoughts on South Africa and Bangladesh | NEW PUBLICATION BY DR. ANISUR RAHMAN KHAN
Our faculty member Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, East West University, in a recent research publication investigated the impacts of climate change on men from two countries in the Global South, namely Bangladesh and South Africa, as we reflect on climate change as a significant consideration in work on the un/making of dominant and marginal masculinities.
They showed that climate change has a gender face, showing differential hazards for men and women linked to the structures of gender in society pointing out several climate-induced impediments such as drought, floods, salinity, lightning, and high temperatures that challenge the fulfillment of men’s socially prescribed roles and responsibilities.
