EWU Law Team Shines as Runner-Up in 29th Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition

The Department of Law at East West University (EWU) proudly announces that its team has emerged as the Runner-Up in the prestigious 29th Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, Bangladesh National Rounds 2024-25. The competition, organized by Hearth Bangladesh in collaboration with the Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB), took place on the IUB campus in Dhaka from January 23 to 25, 2025.

Regarded as one of the top three national moot competitions in Bangladesh, this year's event saw an impressive participation of 38 teams, with 32 teams advancing to the oral rounds based on their memorial rankings. The competition, recognized as the largest national round of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition to date, featured four segments: preliminary, quarter-final, semi-final, and final, with four preliminary rounds leading into the knockout stages.

The EWU team, comprising Speaker-1 Mr. Sabbir Ahmmad, Speaker-2 Ms. Afrin Sultana Anika, and Ms. Puspita Akter, demonstrated exceptional legal acumen and dedication. They were expertly coached by Mr. Shah Maruf Uddin Ahmed, Lecturer in the Department of Law at East West University, who is renowned for his extensive knowledge of environmental law. This achievement marks the second time a team from East West University has secured a runner-up position in a major national moot competition.

Facing the University of Dhaka in the finals, the EWU team showcased their skills through a rigorous round of arguments, Q&A, and rebuttals, ultimately securing the runner-up position. The team extends its heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Shamshad Bashar, Lecturer in the Department of Law at EWU, for her invaluable support throughout their preparation.

Professor Dr, Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University, congratulates the team on their remarkable achievement and looks forward to their continued success in future competitions.
