The eighth annual Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2020 is being celebrated by the Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University through a diversified set of programs from 24-31 October 2020. This year the week-long celebration will be under the theme “Resisting Disinfodemic: Media and Information Literacy for everyone and, by everyone”.

As part of the week-long program, a Quiz Competition was organized by the Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University on 25 October 2020. The quiz competition was open for all undergraduate/graduate level students of East West University and other universities. Around 55 students registered for the online Quiz Competition from University of Dhaka, North South University, BRAC University and from different departments of East West University including English, Business Administration, Pharmacy and Information Studies and Library Management. Kahoot, an online gaming platform was used for conducting the Quiz competition. The contents of the quiz included media and information literacy, misinformation, disinformation, fake news, MIL CLICKS, Global MIL week celebration in the world and in Bangladesh. Three participants were declared as winners based on their highest score of correct answers. The winners were awarded with e-certificates and gifts. The organizers decided to provide books on Independence of Bangladesh to disseminate information about the history of our independence among the youth. The participants found the Quiz interactive and mentioned that it helped them to know about media and information literacy. They also expressed their interest to join more of these activities in the near future.

This year besides Quiz Competition the department will also publish a souvenir, organize a webinar on 31 October and conduct awareness building campaign all throughout the week.  Global Media and Information Literacy week is one of the programs that the department has been celebrating every year since 2017. It is worth mentioning that the Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University is the pioneer among the universities of Bangladesh in celebrating this day along with UNESCO. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Global MIL Week 2020 will be celebrated completely online.
