Sociology of Religion Course Students’ Field Trip to Khagrachari

A recent field trip organized for the students of SOC 318 Sociology of Religion class from East West University proved to be a great learning experience. The two-day field trip, which took place in Khagrachari Sadar on May 4, 2023, was aimed at introducing the students to the diverse communities residing in the area and their unique customs and traditions.


The trip began on the auspicious day of Buddho Purnima, which added more significance to the students' learning experience. During the field trip, the students were able to observe and understand the local livelihoods, religions, and rituals of different communities, including Chakma, Tripura, Marma, and others, who coexist harmoniously in the area.


The main focus of the trip was to gain an in-depth understanding of the customs, practices, and traditions associated with Buddho Purnima. Throughout the trip, the students were able to learn about the significance of the day, the rituals involved, and the differentiation between sacred and profane practices.


Overall, the field trip provided the students with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse religious practices and traditions that exist in the Khagrachari Sadar region. It was a great learning experience that will help them in their future academic and personal pursuits.
