Sociology of Development Course Students' Field Trip to Khagrapur Mohila Kollyan Somiti, Khagrachari

The students of SOC 406: Sociology of Development, Department of Sociology, East West University, recently went on a field trip to Khagrachhari to visit the Khagrapur Mohila Kollyan Somiti, a non-governmental organization working towards the welfare and development of women in the Khagrapur area. The students first visited the NGO office and then two ethnic community villages near Perachora Village, with the NGO workersof KMKS.


During the trip, the students were able to observe and understand the practical development process of Khagrachari area. They conducted in-depth interviews with local and root-level people, especially ethnic minorities, to get a better understanding of their needs and challenges.


According to Mrs. Shefalika Tripura, the Executive Director of the NGO, their primary objective is to work towards the welfare and development of women in the community. To achieve this, the organization undertakes a range of activities aimed at promoting gender equality, empowering women, and addressing the specific needs and challenges faced by women in the community.


The students were able to analyze and connect with some theories such as Modernization theory, Dependency theory, and World system Theory. They also gained a clear understanding of Third Generation NGO Strategies.


The trip was an excellent opportunity for the students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experiences, and they gained valuable insights into the development process of the Khagrapur area.
