Sociological Seminar Series: Liberation War 1971 and Its Socio-economic Significance
The Department of Sociology successfully arranged the 3rd seminar of the Fall Semester 2024 on 17th December at the S.M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery. The seminar featured a presentation by Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer of East West University, titled Liberation War 1971 and Its Socio-economic Significance.
Air Cdre Choudhury’s presentation provided an in-depth analysis of the Liberation War of 1971, focusing on its profound socio-economic impacts on Bangladesh. He highlighted the war’s role in shaping the country’s social structure, economic policies, and collective national identity. Drawing on historical data and personal experiences, he offered valuable insights into how the events of 1971 continue to influence contemporary socio-economic dynamics in Bangladesh.
Faculty members of the Sociology Department, along with students from sociology and other disciplines, attended the seminar. The session was moderated by Dr. Fouzia Mannan, Chairperson of the Sociology Department. Following an engaging question-and-answer session, Dr. Mannan delivered the closing remarks, expressing her gratitude to the organizing team and the seminar speaker.
