Media Discussions on Suicide Prevention | Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan
On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day 2026, Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Professor, Department of Sociology, contributed to public discussions on suicide prevention through leading national media outlets.
Dr. Khan authored two opinion pieces in Kalbela, focusing on the need for stronger institutional and national approaches to suicide prevention. The first, “আত্মহত্যা প্রতিরোধে জাতীয় নীতি আর কত অপেক্ষা”, was published on 10 September, while the second, “আত্মহত্যা রোধে প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক সংস্কার জরুরি”, was published on 9 September.
He also provided an interview for The Daily Star for the opinion feature “Silent struggle behind the badge: 75 police members died by suicide in 8 years,” published on 9 September. His contributions highlighted the importance of addressing the social and institutional factors associated with suicide and strengthening prevention efforts in Bangladesh.
The Department of Sociology recognizes Dr. Khan’s continued contribution to public discourse on important social and public health issues.
