Guest Lecture by Sociology Faculty Member at Jagannath University

The Department of Sociology, East West University, is pleased to share that Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, was invited as a guest speaker at the Department of Anthropology on 4 May 2026.

Dr. Tanjeela delivered a talk titled “Marginalization, Environmental Stress, and Survival Strategies of Forest-Dependent Communities in the Sundarbans: A Political Ecology Analysis.” In her presentation, she discussed how environmental and ecological changes are affecting the lives of forest-dependent communities in the Sundarbans, leading to livelihood insecurity, health risks, and displacement. She also highlighted the challenges faced by displaced populations and the coping strategies they adopt to survive in difficult circumstances.

Faculty members and students from the Department of Anthropology attended the session and actively engaged in the discussion.

During the presentation, Dr. Tanjeela also shared empirical findings from an ongoing research project funded by the East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT), conducted in collaboration with Dr. Rasel Hussain (Assistant Professor) and Helal Uddin (Senior Lecturer).
