On December 5, 2025, a study visit was conducted at two dockyards, namely, LTD Zone Dockyard and Shipbuilders and HR Steel Corporation, located at Fatulla, Naryanganj Demra, Dhaka, for students enrolled in SOC 209 Industrial Sociology. The primary aim of the visit was to foster reflective learning by bridging theoretical knowledge with practical industrial experience.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the authorities and received a detailed briefing on the dockyards’ activities. The students were then actively engaged, asking thoughtful questions that connected their academic learning with its practical implications. Key issues discussed included industrial relations, management structures, operational practices, trade unionism, collective bargaining, the industry–academia interface, and social safety measures. The students also inquired about relevant government policies and their impact on dockyard operations.

They also visited the surrounding community to examine interactions between the dockyards and the neighboring population.

The visit was supervised and guided by the course instructor, Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology. On behalf of East West University and the Department of Sociology, Dr. Khan extended heartfelt thanks to the authorities for facilitating the visit.
