Field Trip at Rarikhal Union, Srinagar, Munshiganj | SOC7205: Rural Sociology
On December 12, 2025, a study visit was conducted at Rarikhal Union, Srinagar, Munshiganj, for students enrolled in SOC 205: Rural Sociology. The primary aim of the visit was to foster reflective learning by bridging theoretical knowledge with practical, real-world experiences.
The day-long visit was organized into three segments. First, students visited the Rarikhal Union Parishad, where they were briefed by local representatives on the activities and functions of the office. This was followed by an interactive session in which students asked questions linking theoretical lessons to their real-world implications. Major issues discussed included the role of the Union Parishad in rural power structures, village courts, and rural development/services. In addition, students inquired into various aspects of village dynamics, such as rural livelihoods, rural-urban interactions, and rural social changes.
In the second phase, students visited Jadunath Roy’s Zamindar Bari, located in Balasur village, Vaggokul. They had the opportunity to interact with local residents and learn about the history of the Zamindar family. This visit was directly related to class discussions on agrarian structure and relations, the Permanent Settlement Act, the Bengal Tenancy Act, and agrarian reforms in Bengal.
Finally, students visited the Sir J. C. Bose Complex located in Rarikhal village, including the museum housed within the palace.
The visit was supervised and guided by the course instructor, Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology. On behalf of East West University and the Department of Sociology, Dr. Khan extended heartfelt thanks to the concerned authorities for facilitating the visit. Mr. Helal Uddin, Senior Lecturer of the Department, also accompanied the students during the visit.
