FIELD TRIP TO MARIE STOPES PREMIUM MATERNITY HOSPITAL AND MARIE STOPES BANGLADESH (MSB) HEAD OFFICE | SUMMER 2026

On August 13, 2026, the Department of Sociology, East West University, organized a field visit to Marie Stopes Premium Maternity Hospital, Dhanmondi, and the Head Office of Marie Stopes Bangladesh (MSB) for students enrolled in SOC 7305: Medical Sociology.

The objective of the field visit was to provide students with practical exposure to healthcare services and facilities and to help them develop a better understanding of maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health services, healthcare delivery systems, patient care, and awareness and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). As Marie Stopes Bangladesh is actively involved in maternal and reproductive health as well as a range of other healthcare services, the visit provided valuable opportunities for students to connect their classroom learning in Medical Sociology with practical experiences in healthcare settings.

The students first visited Marie Stopes Premium Maternity Hospital, Dhanmondi, where they were introduced to the hospital’s facilities, services, and healthcare operations. They learned about the services provided for maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, as well as other healthcare services. They gained insights into the organization and functioning of the healthcare system. The students also participated in a guided tour of the hospital, which allowed them to observe the hospital environment, service delivery processes, and different facilities firsthand. This practical exposure helped students better understand how healthcare services are organized and delivered within a hospital setting.

Following the hospital visit, the students proceeded to the Marie Stopes Bangladesh (MSB) Head Office, where they participated in an educational and interactive session. The session provided students with an overview of MSB’s functions, programs, and healthcare services for different population groups, including adolescent girls, young women, pregnant women, and older women. Students also learned about quality control mechanisms and practices in hospital settings, non-communicable diseases, and the current situation regarding vaccination and available immunization services. The session further highlighted how healthcare institutions, healthcare delivery systems, and broader social contexts are interconnected, reinforcing key concepts discussed in the Medical Sociology course.

The field visit was organized and coordinated by the course instructor, Mr. Helal Uddin, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sociology, East West University. Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Associate Professor, and Dr. Rasel Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, also accompanied the students during the field visit.

The Department of Sociology extends its sincere gratitude to Marie Stopes Premium Maternity Hospital and Marie Stopes Bangladesh (MSB) for their warm hospitality, valuable guidance, and generous cooperation. Their support contributed significantly to making the field visit an engaging and enriching learning experience, enabling students to gain valuable practical insights and connect classroom learning with real-world healthcare practices.
