Field Trip to the Liberation War Museum

The Department of Sociology, East West University, organized a field trip to the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon on April 19, 2025, for the students of SOC 7101 (Introduction to Sociology) and SOC 7106 (Historical Sociology). The visit was conducted under the guidance of course instructors Dr. Fouzia Mannan, Md. Helal Uddin, and Ruma Parvin.

The visit provided students with a profound opportunity to explore the history of Bangladesh’s struggle for democratic and national rights. Through exhibits and narratives, they learned about the genocide carried out by the Pakistani military and the subsequent transformation of resistance into an armed liberation movement, culminating in the birth of Bangladesh as a secular, democratic state in December 1971.

Upon arrival, students viewed a documentary on the Liberation War, which offered insights into the historical context, key events, and the sacrifices made by over three million Bengalis.

They then toured four galleries that depicted Bangladesh’s long journey toward national identity—from the colonial period under British rule, through the socio-political struggles after 1947, to the 1971 War of Liberation.

Following the gallery tour, students participated in a quiz based on their visit. Nine students achieved the highest scores and were awarded tokens of appreciation, including books, by the Liberation War Museum.

This educational trip enabled students to apply their classroom learning to real-world historical contexts. It not only deepened their understanding of Bangladesh’s emergence as an independent nation but also fostered a sense of patriotic consciousness and civic responsibility.
