A Field Trip to the Liberation War Museum

A day-long field trip was arranged for the students of SOC 101 (Introduction to Sociology) and SOC 102 (Introduction to Anthropology) at the Liberation War Museum, Sher-e Bangla Nagar Civic Centre, Agargaon, Dhaka.

During the visit to the Liberation war Museum, the students of SOC 101 (Introduction to Sociology), SOC 102 (Introduction to Anthropology) and SOC 106 (Historical Sociology)got the opportunity to have knowledge on the valiant struggle of the Bengali people for democratic and national rights. Following the genocide unleashed by the military rulers of Pakistan, the struggle turned into an armed conflict, culminating in the emergence of Bangladesh as a secular, democratic state in December 1971.

Students visited 4 galleries depicting the people of Bangladesh's long struggle to establish their identity as a nation under the British regime, as well as their struggle for democracy, and political and economic emancipation beginning in 1947 and culminating in their armed struggle during the 9-month long War of Liberation in 1971. The Students of SOC 101 (Introduction to Sociology) and SOC 102 (Introduction to Anthropology) applied their observations and insights to understand the history and emergence of a newly independent country Bangladesh.

Finally, it can be stated that students of these courses not only learnt patriotic consciousness but also got the enthusiasm for being a good citizen for a welfare society.
