Dr. Rasel Hussain, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor from the Department of Sociology, East West University, have published an article titled “Abuse Towards Elderly Parents by Adult Children: A Sociological Reflection from Bangladeshi Society” in the Journal of Community Positive Practices.

The study explores the changing social dynamics contributing to the growing incidence of abuse toward elderly parents in Bangladesh. Using content analysis of online newspaper reports, the research identifies key patterns, including fathers as the most frequent victims and sons as the primary perpetrators. Property and inheritance disputes emerged as major triggers of abuse, with cases involving physical harm and severe neglect.

The findings highlight the urgent need for policy attention and social awareness to address elderly parental abuse in Bangladesh and similar South Asian contexts.
