Erasmus Mundus Scholar Joins Sociology Department of East West University for Internship
The Department of Sociology, East West University, is delighted to welcome Ms. Júlia Fuentes Ibars, a Spanish student of the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Public Health in Disasters (EMJMPHID) program jointly coordinated by the University of Oviedo (Spain), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), and the University of Nicosia (Cyprus). She joined the department with a vision to gain practical exposure at the intersection of sociology, health, and disaster studies and successfully completed her internship during the Summer 2025 semester.
During her internship, Ms. Júlia worked under the supervision of Mr. Helal Uddin, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and an alumnus of the EMJMPHID program. During her tenure, she actively engaged in a range of academic and research activities, including training in literature review techniques, questionnaire development and checklist preparation, the use of digital and statistical tools for surveys, and field interview methods with local communities, i.e, Sundarbans regions.
Her joining as an internship student brought an international perspective to the department, fostering opportunities for cross-cultural academic exchange and collaboration. The internship not only enriched the department’s ongoing mission and vision of international collaboration but also provided students with valuable opportunities to interact among them and learn from her global experiences.
The Department of Sociology warmly appreciates Ms. Júlia’s contributions and wishes her continued success in her academic and professional journey.
