Dr. Mumita Tanjeela Publishes Book on Women and Climate Resilience in Bangladesh
The Department of Sociology is proud to announce that Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at East West University, Bangladesh, has published a book titled Rising Tide, Resilient Voices: Bangladeshi Women Battling Climate Change. Published by Common Ground Research Networks, USA. The book highlights the vital role of Bangladeshi women in climate action.
Drawing on extensive fieldwork conducted in four of the country’s most climate-vulnerable regions, Dr. Tanjeela illustrates how women transform their lived experiences into powerful tools for community resilience. From mobilizing neighbors before cyclones to innovating agricultural practices in salinity and flood affected areas, community seed banks or off‑farm micro‑enterprises in drought prone areas and community disaster management practices in hilly slopes, the book showcases women not as victims, but as key agents of adaptation. Combining feminist theory with vivid storytelling, the book calls for greater investment in and recognition of women's leadership in the face of environmental crises.
