CONFERENCE PRESENTATION | CANADIAN SOCIOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE 2026 | Helal Uddin
Mr. Helal Uddin, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at East West University, Bangladesh, virtually presented a research paper titled “Occupational Stress and Well-being among BCS (Administration) Officers in Bangladesh: A Mixed-Method Study” at the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) Conference 2026, held at Dalhousie University, Canada, from 1–13 June 2026.
The BIAM Foundation funded the research, and the research team comprised Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Dr. Rasel Hussain, and Ms. Ruma Parvin from the Department of Sociology, East West University. Using a mixed-method approach, the study examined the sources and consequences of occupational stress among BCS (Administration) officers in Bangladesh.
The findings revealed that occupational stress is a significant challenge within the administrative cadre. The study found that higher levels of occupational stress were associated with poorer mental and physical health, greater perceived stress, and difficulties in maintaining work–life balance. The study emphasized that the well-being of administrative officers is closely linked to the effectiveness of public administration and service delivery and highlighted the need for evidence-based policy interventions.
The paper was presented in the conference session titled “Work, Employment, and Labour: Pressures, Barriers, and Opportunities,” drawing international attention to the experiences of public administrators in Bangladesh and underscoring the importance of workplace well-being in the public sector.
