CONFERENCE PRESENTATION | AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (AIUB) | Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan
Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor, presented a paper titled “Readiness for school-based suicide prevention: A study of schools in Dhaka city” at the International Conference on Challenges and Trends in Arts and Social Sciences, organized by the Faculty of Social Science, American International University (AIUB), Bangladesh.
Given the alarming burden of student suicides, the proposed study aims to analyze the existing context and determine the extent to which schools in Bangladesh are equipped for suicide-prevention activities. Specifically, it proposes to examine the needs and readiness for school-based suicide prevention from the perspective of school heads and other key stakeholders of renowned schools in Dhaka city. Theoretically, the study draws on the WHO’s LIVE LIFE: Implementation Guide for Suicide Prevention in Countries (2021), which provides detailed guidance on conducting situational analyses to gauge the severity of suicide in specific settings. It also provides a significant policy impetus to promote implementation research and practice in suicide prevention.
The conference was held on 11–12 December 2025, with participation from academics, development practitioners, researchers, and students from both home and abroad.
