Dr. Mumita Tanjeela is presently working as the chairperson of department of Sociology at East West University. Dr. Tanjeela obtained MSc degree in Gender and Development Studies from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 2008 and Bachelor and Masters degree in Sociology from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Tanjeela awarded her PhD degree from the School of Government and International of Griffith University, Australia in 2016. Her PhD thesis topic was “ Untold Stories: Women’s Resiliency and Climate Change Adaptation in Bangladesh”.
Before joining East West University in May 2017, Dr. Tanjeela worked with the Department of Women Affairs (DWA) under the Ministry of Women Affairs, Bangladesh for 20 years from 1997-2017. During that period she was involved in multidimensional activities such as project formulation, program implementation, project management to project monitoring and evaluation activities. She was part of two projects implementation- titled ‘Ensure Safe Water and Social Safety for Women and Children who are at Risk under the Impact of Climate Change in Coastal areas of Bangladesh’ and ‘Addressing Gender and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Interface of DWA’. She was also responsible for developing ‘Gender database of Bangladesh under SAARC Gender Info-base Program in cooperation with UNWOMEN.
Prior to that Dr. Tanjeela worked as a Research Assistant in Research, Monitoring, Evaluation and Documentation unit of a non-government development organization named Ganao Sahajjaya Sangstha (GSS) where she was involved in organization’s programs monitoring and evaluation related activities.
Her expertise includes Gender and development, Gender and Environment, Climate change Adaptation, Disaster management, Violence against women, Women and politics.
