I am S M Anowarul Kayes Shimul, a senior lecturer (on study leave) at the Department of Sociology, East West University, Bangladesh, and (currently) a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, USA. Trained (or training) as a sociologist in both (South) Asian and North American (also Pacific) contexts, my research broadly explores how technoscience, environment, and power relations intersect in everyday life.
I am critically attentive to the epistemic regime of the Global North and engage with locally grounded knowledge traditions in the Global South. My recent projects include studies on male suicide in Bangladesh, labor unrest in the garment industry, and dispute resolution practices of inland water transport workers in Bangladesh.
