MD. PIZUAR HOSSAIN (aka 'Mohammad Pizuar Hossain') is currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in Law and Criminology at Department of Law of East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is an enrolled lawyer at the Bangladesh Bar Council and a member of the Dhaka District Bar Association. He provides pro bono professional support for the victims of human rights violations as a Consultant of the Bangladesh Office of Asia Justice and Rights (AJAR), Jakarta, Indonesia, and as a Legal Researcher of the Edinburgh International Justice Initiative (EIJI), Scotland, the United Kingdom (UK). He has played the role of an adjudicator in a couple of prestigious moot court competitions, including International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition (the Hague, the Netherlands), Price Media Law Moot Court Competition (Oxford, UK), and 1st and 2nd International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition (Dhaka, Bangladesh).
Mr. Hossain holds a specialized Master's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, the UK. He has been awarded the “Chevening Award (2021-22)” to pursue the Master's degree from the UK. While pursuing his Master's in the UK, he has achieved the "Edinburgh Award" from the University of Edinburgh and the "Human Rights Volunteer Award" from Chevening (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the UK). He has received “Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal” and “Chancellor’s Gold Medal” in his Bachelor of Laws (LLB, Honours) and Master of Laws (LLM in International Law) programs, respectively. He has also received the “ESDR Fellow Award 2021” from Kathmandu School of Law, Nepal, and Global Campus of Human Rights, Italy.
His research interests lie at the crossroads of public international law, criminology, human rights, transnational crimes, genocide studies and constitutional law. Presently, he is involved in the following research activities:

Mohammad Pizuar Hossain's research interests lie at the crossroads of: (a) public international law - international human rights law, international criminal law, international humanitarian law, and international environmental law; (b) criminology and criminal justice - transitional justice, restorative justice, community justice, and gender justice; (c) transnational crimes and genocide studies - cybercrimes, terrorism, human trafficking, and genocide; and (d) constitutional law and public policy - freedom of speech, right to privacy, freedom of religion and right to health.
He has published articles in refereed national and international journals on 'trial by media and human rights violations', 'plea-bargaining and the criminal justice system of Bangladesh', 'rape as a weapon in Bangladesh’s War of Liberation', 'amnesty for war crimes and genocide', 'justice for Bangladesh genocide', 'killing of the Bengali intellectuals in 1971 genocide', 'the stages of Rohingya genocide', 'Geo-politics and the Rohingya repatriation', and 'water-management agreements between Bangladesh and India' from 2016 to 2022.
His journal articles, book chapters and working papers on role of transitional justice to prevent recidivism, restorative justice in Scotland, criminology of transitional justice, genocide memory words, role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in addressing genocide, criminology of aetiology of atrocity crimes, and online hate speech and Bangla content moderation are awaiting publication by 2023.
