In an age where information shapes societies, influences decisions, and fuels progress, the ability to understand, manage, and ethically use information has never been more vital. At the Department of Information Studies at East West University, we prepare students to be thoughtful navigators of this dynamic information landscape — capable of making meaningful contributions across sectors, communities, and cultures.
Our BSS in Information Studies program responds to the growing global need for skilled professionals who can transform data and knowledge into insight, impact, and innovation. This program offers advanced learning in the acquisition, organization, dissemination, and preservation of information, alongside training in digital technologies, information architecture, web‑based services, and knowledge management — empowering you with both intellectual depth and practical skills.
Today’s societies demand more than just access to information; they demand information literacy, critical awareness, and ethical engagement. Bangladesh itself is prioritizing broader information literacy at community and national levels, recognizing the role of informed citizens in democratic and socio‑economic development. Our department actively contributes to this vision — from celebrating Global Media and Information Literacy Week with UNESCO and national partners to building a network of institutions focused on healthy digital ecosystems and critical media awareness.
At the heart of our approach is an educational experience that blends theory with real‑world application. You will learn how to design and manage information systems, evaluate digital content, lead knowledge initiatives, and support organizations in navigating an information‑rich world. Hands‑on training, internships, and interaction with practitioners and scholars enrich your learning and prepare you for multiple career pathways — from knowledge management and digital communications to research, archives, documentation, and media roles both at home and abroad.
The department also fosters vibrant intellectual engagement through seminars, workshops, community outreach, and field activities that connect classroom learning with societal challenges. You’ll be encouraged to lead, innovate, and collaborate — attributes that not only make you competitive in the job market but also ready to contribute responsibly to your communities.
As you consider your academic journey, I warmly invite you to explore what the Department of Information Studies has to offer. Join a community that values curiosity, purpose, and positive impact, where your education will be a foundation for leadership, creativity, and meaningful contribution in a world driven by information.
Welcome to your next chapter — where ideas become influence and knowledge becomes action.
