Associations between family social circumstances and psychological distress among the university students of Bangladesh: To what extent do the lifestyle factors mediate? | Recent Publication by Mr. Masum Billah

Our faculty member Mr. Masum Billah, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sociology, East West University, has recently co-authored a paper showing associations between family social circumstances and psychological distress among the university students of Bangladesh along with the mediating factors. very specifically, they have examined the association of social and lifestyle factors with psychological distress, and the potential mediating role of the lifestyle factors in the estimated associations between social circumstances and psychological distress.

The findings suggest that there are strong associations between social circumstances and psychological distress but the lifestyle factors independently increase students’ risk of psychological distress. Therefore, promoting students’ healthy lifestyles may reduce the overall burden of psychological distress, nevertheless, equity initiatives should be taken to minimize the social inequalities in psychological health.
