Visit to the SOS Children’s Village – SOC 201 Field Trip

A field trip for the students of SOC 201 (Sociology of Family and Marriage) was organized on 8th May 2025 to the SOS Children’s Village, Shyamoli, Dhaka. The trip was conducted under the guidance of the course instructor, Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, and accompanied by Mr. Md. Helal Uddin, Senior Lecturer of the department.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to observe and learn how the organization supports children who have lost parental care. It offered insights into the history, structure, and various facilities of the SOS Children’s Village. From education and medical care to emotional support and life skills development, the center ensures a stable and secure environment where children can grow and thrive.

The trip also encouraged students to consider the importance of voluntary social work with parentless children. They were inspired by seeing how love, care, and a sense of community can create a family-like atmosphere, even in the absence of biological ties. The visit highlighted the evolving definition of family in contemporary society, particularly in the context of child welfare and social care.

Overall, the field trip added a practical, real-life dimension to the course content. It helped bridge academic knowledge with social realities, emphasizing the importance of family and community in supporting orphaned children through social organizations.
